About Us
Red Thread Theatre Collective (RTTC) was founded to create more opportunities for fully-staged independent theatre productions in New York City. We operate with the core belief that theatremakers deserve spaces where they can experiment, learn, and create without needing to ask for permission first. We strive to produce innovative and thought-provoking work while building community with and sustaining artistic momentum for queer and BIPOC theatremakers.
Our name alludes to the red thread of fate, an ancient belief that originates from Taoism. It is commonly thought of as an invisible red thread tied around the thumb and pinky finger of those who are destined to meet one another, regardless of time, place, or circumstance.
Our Values
-
We are committed to championing theatre that uplifts queer and BIPOC artists, both onstage and behind the scenes. We believe that the intersectionality of these identities in particular is underrepresented in the professional landscape and aim to bring it to the forefront of our work.
-
We aim to provide spaces for artists to not only create innovative theatre, but also to make meaningful connections with and find community in one another.
-
We work towards ensuring that artists of all identities, abilities, and backgrounds have the opportunity to work on fully-staged theatrical productions.
-
We set high expectations for ourselves because we know our worth. To us, valuing excellence means striving for dedication, consistency, and growth in everything we do.
